Psoriasis Awareness Month - Understanding Common triggers

August is Psoriasis Awareness Month, making it the perfect opportunity to raise awareness and help people better understand this long term inflammatory skin condition.

Psoriasis affects around 2 - 3% of people in the UK, while it often appears as dry, red, flaky or scaly patches of skin, everyones experience is different. Certain triggers can make symptoms worse for some people.

Stress

Stress is one of the most commonly reported triggers. Looking after your mental wellbeing through relaxation, gentle movement, quality sleep or mindfulness may help support your overall health.

Weather

Cold weather and low humidity can leave skin feeling drier and more uncomfortable. Regular moisturising and protecting your skin from harsh weather can help support your skin barrier.

Illness

Some people notice flare ups after illnesses such as sore throats or viral infections, as the immune system becomes more active.

Skin Injury

Cuts, scratches, sunburn or insect bites can sometimes trigger new psoriasis patches.

At Humble Bee Therapies, I believe skincare should work in harmony with your skin. My products are made with carefully selected natural oils, beeswax and botanical ingredients to help moisturise dry, sensitive skin and support the skin's natural barrier.

Everyone's Triggers are Different

There isn't a single trigger that affects everyone. Keeping a simple diary of your symptoms, stress levels, weather, illness and skincare routine may help you identify patterns over time.

Caring for your Skin

  • Stay Hydrated

  • Moisturise regularly

  • Choose gentle fragrance free where suitable

  • Avoid harsh scrubs during flare ups
